The base area of Crested Butte Mountain Resort is a bustling spot with restaurants and outdoor shops, especially busy in the winter and summer months. Skiers can warm up by a fire pit at Mountaineer Square after a full day of skiing, and visitors can take the free shuttle to town to easily get to Downtown Crested Butte.

In terms of homes, the base area is more high density, with condominium complexes and condotels offering maximum convenience and all the amenities. The majority of these homes are turn-key, come fully furnished, and are maintained by the HOA, making it extremely easy for second home owners to have a worry-free experience when they are out of town, and when they come to visit. Some condos near the base area are true ski-in/ski out, a big portion of them are a short walk from the slopes, and others are just a short drive to the resort, although most sit on the bus route for easy access to Crested Butte Mountain Resort.
